Aerospace Medical Service Technician (AMST) is a rating within the U.S. Navy’s aviation community. AMSTs are critical members of the team responsible for the well-being of naval aviators and aircrew. They perform aerospace physiology services, including monitoring flyers’ flight readiness, administering emergency medical care, and operating sophisticated respiratory support equipment.
AMST school is billed as one of the hardest in the Navy, and for good reason. What are the requirements to become an AMST?

The Training

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the median salary for an AMST is $66,010 per year, which is significantly higher than the median salary for all occupations ($50,620 per year).
What are the job duties of an AMST?
Aerospace medical service technicians, also called AMSTs, are responsible for the medical care of aviation and space crew members, passengers, and patients during air and space transport. AMTSs work under the supervision of an aerospace medicine physician to provide emergency medical care, conduct physical examinations, and develop and implement injury prevention programs. They also maintain medical equipment and supplies and provide support to other members of the medical team.
