Applying to Texas Tech

The admissions department looks at a lot of factors, including your high school GPA, your SAT or ACT score, and your extracurricular activities. If you have a strong academic record and you’re involved in your community, you have a good chance of getting into texas tech
The admissions process
To be considered for admission to texas tech you’ll need to submit your high school transcripts, SAT or ACT scores and an application fee. If you’re applying for admission to the fall term, you should aim to submit your materials by the December 1 priority deadline. Once your materials have been received and processed, your file will be forwarded to the appropriate admissions committee for review. The committee will take into account your high school grades, test scores, essay and extracurricular activities when making a decision. The essay
There is no minimum GPA or test score required for admission to Texas Tech, but the admissions committee does consider these factors when making decisions. The admissions essay is also a way to show your writing ability and demonstrate your interest in the school.
Academics
The admissions requirements for texas tech university are not terribly difficult to meet for the average student. You will need a high school diploma or equivalent, like a GED. Your high school GPA will need to be at a 2.5, although if you have a 21 or higher on the ACT/1060 or higher on the SAT, you may be able to get in with a lower GPA.
The curriculum
All Texas Tech University students must complete a curriculum that includes a core of 42 semester credit hours, as well as a major and minor. The core is made up of requirements in English, math, natural sciences, social sciences, world languages, fine arts, and American history.
The grading system
The grades that you receive in your courses will become part of your permanent academic record. Texas Tech uses the following letter grades and grade point values:

In addition, you may receive one of the following symbols next to a course on your transcript:

Student Life
Texas Tech is a highly selective school, with an acceptance rate of only 57%. Students who are accepted into Texas Tech can expect a challenging and stimulating academic experience. The student body is also very diverse, with students from all over the world.
The campus
Texas Tech is a large, public university with a sprawling campus. The main campus is located in Lubbock, Texas, and it covers more than 1,800 acres. The university also has branch campuses in Amarillo, El Paso, and Odessa. In total, there are more than 38,000 students enrolled at Texas Tech.
The campus is home to numerous academic buildings, residence halls, dining options, and student organizations. The university offers more than 350 undergraduate majors and 100 graduate programs. Additionally, the Honors College and the Graduate School are both highly respected programs at Texas Tech.
The student body
The student body at Texas Tech is incredibly diverse, with students from all over the country and the world. The student population is around 36,000, and the student-to-faculty ratio is 18:1.
The Greek system
The Greeks at Texas Tech comprise about 20 percent of the undergraduate student body and include members of both sexes in most organizations. The Greek system began at Texas Tech in 1925 with the founding of two men’s organizations, Phi Delta Theta and Sigma Alpha Epsilon. In 1926, three women’s sororities were chartered, and today there are eight national fraternities, eight national sororities, and four local organizations. Fraternities and sororities are governed by the Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils.
In order to become a member of a fraternity or sorority at Texas Tech, students must go through a membership recruitment process that takes place during the fall and spring semesters. All interested students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA to be eligible for membership. During recruitment, prospective members will have the opportunity to meet members of each organization and learn more about their philanthropic efforts, community service projects, social activities, and financial obligations. After completing the recruitment process, new members will participate in an initiation ceremony that officially welcomes them into their chosen fraternity or sorority.
