Greek Life
Greek life has been a tradition at Georgia Tech since the school was founded in 1885. The first fraternity established on campus was Phi Kappa Sigma, followed closely by Beta Theta Pi and Sigma Nu. Today, there are over 50 fraternity and sorority chapters at Tech, with a total membership of over 4,000 students.
While Greek organizations are not required to live in university housing, most have houses located close to campus. On-campus housing is available for those students who choose to live in their fraternity or sorority house.
The Interfraternity Council (IFC) governs Tech’s fraternities, while the Panhellenic Association (PHA) governs the sororities. Each chapter is governed by its respective national organization.
Athletics
Athletic teams at Georgia Tech are called the Yellow Jackets and compete in NCAA Division I as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Georgia Tech’s men’s basketball team has won two NCAA championships, four ACC tournament championships, and has participated in 15 NCAA tournaments. The men’s track and field team has also competed at the Olympic Games six times, winning four gold medals and one silver medal.
