What are the qualifications of an MRI Tech?
MRI techs must have at least an associate’s degree in radiologic technology, although many employers prefer applicants who have a bachelor’s degree. Some techs complete a two-year radiographer program and then complete a one-year MRI program. Most states require MRI techs to be licensed or certified.
How to become an MRI Tech?
You will need to obtain an accredited two-year associate degree in radiation sciences, radiology, or a related field in order to pursue a career as an MRI tech. Alternatively, some MRI tech programs may offer a one-year certificate. During your course of study, you will likely take classes in human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and imaging procedures. You will also receive training on how to operate MRI machines and how to work with patients. Once you have completed your academic requirements, you will need to obtain certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
