Applying for the Exam

The SESM exam is comprised of 100 multiple-choice questions covering enterprise systems management topics.

You will need to register with the ARDMS or CAAHEP in order to take the exams. Once you have registered, you will be given a date, time, and location for your exam. You will need to bring a government-issued photo ID with you on the day of your exam.

You can find study guides and practice exams for both the SPI and PIE exams online. Studying for these exams can be difficult, but there are many resources available to help you prepare. Your ultrasound program may also offer review courses or other resources to help you study for your exams.

Renewing Your License

You will need to renew your license every two years. The continuing education requirements for renewal are:

• 24 contact hours of continuing education, with at least 1 contact hour in each of the following 4 topic areas: physics, instrumentation, patient management, and clinical obstetric and/or gynecologic sonography

• Documentation of successful completion of 10 peer-reviewed cases in the modality for which you are seeking renewal

You will also need to complete a jurisprudence exam as part of the renewal process.
