The Prompt

The Coalition application will prompt you to upload a personal essay. Some people call this the “Common App Essay”, but it’s not the same thing. The Coalition App essay is longer- it’s 650 words maximum.

Here are the two prompts:

1. Why do you want to study at Georgia Tech, and how do you think your choice of major will contribute to your success? (max 300 words)

2. Share with us something about yourself that isn’t evident from the rest of your application. This could be your passion for a certain activity, your experience with overcoming adversity, or anything else that gives us a better sense of who you are as a person. (max 200 words)


To start, choose three significant experiences or activities from your past that have helped shape who you are today. Then, reflect on why these experiences were meaningful to you and how they have helped shape your goals and values. What did you learn from these experiences? How have they affected your relationships, your approach to learning, or your view of the world?

What to Write About

There are a few things to keep in mind when thinking about what to write about for the Georgia Tech essay.
