Second, the culture of the industry can be very cutthroat. There’s a lot of pressure to succeed, and it can be easy to get caught up in the rat race. I think it’s important to take a step back and remember that there’s more to life than work.
Finally, the industry is dominated by a few giant companies. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with that, it does lead to a certain amount of stagnation. I’d like to see more innovation and creativity in the industry as a whole.
These are just a few of the things that I think need to change about the tech industry. It’s an exciting field to be a part of, but there’s always room for improvement.

I’ve been in the tech industry for about 2 years now. I’ve worked at startups, big tech companies, and everything in between. In that time, I’ve seen a lot of things that I love and a lot of things that I hate. And, like many people in this industry, I’ve had a lot of thoughts about how we could do better.
So, here are my thoughts on what I want to see change in the tech industry:
1) More diversity. This one is huge for me. The tech industry is notoriously bad at Diversity & Inclusion (D&I). We need more women, more people of color, more LGBTQIA+ people, more disabled people, etc. in the industry. This is not only the right thing to do from a moral standpoint, but it also makes good business sense. Diverse teams are proven to perform better than non-diverse teams.
2) Less greed. There’s no denying that there is a lot of greed in the tech industry. Companies are often more focused on making money than they are on making a difference in the world or taking care of their employees. I’d like to see that change. I’d like to see companies focus on things other than making money.
3) More transparency. Another big issue in the tech industry is a lack of transparency. Companies are often very secretive about their internal workings and their plans for the future. This can be frustrating for employees who feel like they’re in the dark about what’s going on at their own company. It can also be dangerous, as we’ve seen with companies like Uber who have been involved in numerous scandals due to their lack of transparency.
4) Better working conditions The working conditions in the tech industry are often far from ideal. Employees are expected to work long hours (often overnight), they have little control over their work/life balance, and they’re often expected to take on roles that are outside of their job description (e.g., doing customer support). I’d like to see companies start valuing their employees more and start providing them with better working conditions.
5) More regulation . The tech industry is largely unregulated right now and this can be problematic for a number of reasons: it allows companies to get away with bad behavior (e.,g., sexual harassment), it stifles innovation (because new companies can’t compete with established players), and it creates an uneven playing field (because established companies can buy up small startups before they have a chance to grow).
