Google is making a number of new hires in its quest to get more women into leadership roles at the company. The internet giant has been beefing up its presence in the Bay Area, with a new campus in San Francisco and a $1 billion investment in nearby Berkeley.

New campus

Google is moving into San Francisco. The search giant has agreed to lease 210,000 square feet of office space in the city’s SoMa district, with an option to expand to 260,000 square feet. The new campus will be located at 345 Spear Street.

This is a big move for Google, which has been headquartered in Mountain View, about 35 miles south of San Francisco, since 1999. The company has been growing rapidly and now has more than 70 offices in more than 40 countries.

The new campus will allow Google to be closer to many of its partners and customers. It will also put the company in the heart of one of the most vibrant and innovative areas of the country.

We’re excited to be moving into such an amazing city and we can’t wait to get started on our new campus.

Facebook

San Francisco is losing one of its most prominent residents. Mark Zuckerberg, the young CEO of Facebook, is relocating to the Bay Area, taking up residence in Palo Alto. This was Silicon Valley’s big news last week, and for good reason. San Francisco has long been the incubator of tech greatness, but Zuckerberg’s move is a sign that the Valley is where the real action is.

New campus

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s chief executive, said on Tuesday that the social networking giant would build a new campus in the Bay Area, its first major expansion outside of Menlo Park, Calif., where it has been headquartered since 2004.

The new campus, which will be located about 30 miles south of Menlo Park in the city of Fremont, will span about 2 million square feet and accommodate up to 6,000 employees. It is expected to open by late 2015 or early 2016.

The expansion is a sign of Facebook’s continued growth. The company now has more than 9,000 employees worldwide, up from 7,800 at the end of 2012. And it is still hiring rapidly: Facebook said last month that it planned to add 3,000 more employees this year.

New products

There are a lot of new products on Facebook that you may not be aware of.

The first is Facebook Connect. Facebook Connect allows you to take your existing profile and login information from Facebook and use it to login to other websites. This way, you can comment on news stories, blog posts, and more without having to create a new account for each website.

Another new product is Facebook Marketplace. With Marketplace, you can buy and sell items with people in your local area. For example, if you’re looking for a new bike, you can search for “bikes” in the Marketplace section of Facebook and find people who are selling bikes near you.

Facebook also has a new messaging system that allows you to send messages to your friends whether they’re online or offline. The message will be delivered as soon as your friend logs back into Facebook.

Lastly, there’s the brand new Facebook Places. Places allows you to “check in” to different locations using your mobile phone. For example, if you’re at a restaurant, you can check in and your friends will see that you’re there. You can also see if any of your friends are checked into the same place as you are.
