texas tech had a decent football season this year. They were able to go 7-5 and they’re hoping to get a good bowl game to finish off the season. Right now, it looks like they’re going to the Liberty Bowl, but we’ll see what happens.
Texas Tech’s Record
The Red Raiders had a great season this year, finishing with an 8-5 record. They started off strong with a 5-2 record in their first seven games. However, they lost three of their last five games. Despite this, they still managed to qualify for a bowl game. It is still yet to be determined which bowl game they will be playing in.

The Red Raiders are currently ranked number 19 in the nation and are 6-6 overall. They started off strong with a 5-2 record, but unfortunately lost their last four games. Even though they didn’t end the season well, they are still bowl eligible and have been invited to play in the Liberty Bowl against Missouri.

As the regular season comes to an end, texas tech fans are wondering what bowl game the team will be playing in. There are many different bowl games that the team could be selected for, but which one is the most likely? Let’s take a look at some of the possibilities.
Gator Bowl
The Gator Bowl is a college football bowl game that has been played annually in Jacksonville, Florida, since 1946. The game is currently sponsored by TaxSlayer.com and is officially known as the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl. It has been televised nationally on ESPN since December 1993. Beginning with the 2015 season, it will feature teams from the SEC and Big Ten conferences.
The Gator Bowl is one of the oldest college football bowl games, having been played annually since 1946. It was originally played at Gator Stadium on the campus of the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida; but moved to Jacksonville Municipal Stadium (now EverBank Field) in 1949 and has been held there since 1950 (with the exception of 1984 and 1991). The first two years featured a best-of-three format between Southern Conference and independent schools; Florida won both games handily, 47–20 in 1946 and 34–0 in 1947.[4] The 1949 game (between Wake Forest and William & Mary) was the first contests featuring two teams from outside the South; Wake Forest won 39–34.[5]
In 1961, the game became one of the four regional finals in the newly created College Football Playoff, which determined the national championship.[6] From 1946 to 1964, it matched teams from either the Atlantic Coast Conference or Southern Conference against an at-large opponent (usually from another region of the country). Through 1967, it was one of four bowl games (along with the Cotton Bowl Classic, Orange Bowl, and Sugar Bowl) that determined standings for a national championship in college football (the “wire service” polls began selecting national champions starting in 1936).
Sun Bowl
The Sun Bowl is a college football bowl game that is currently the second oldest bowl game behind only the Rose Bowl. The Sun Bowl is played annually in El Paso, Texas at Sun Bowl Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).
Alamo Bowl
The Alamo Bowl is a NCAA Football bowl game, held annually in San Antonio,Texas at the Alamodome. The Alamo Bowl is currently sponsored by Valero Energy Corporation. It pits the second choice team from the Big 12 Conference against the #1 Pac-12 team after the College Football Playoff teams are placed.
Texas Tech’s Chances
The texas tech red raiders are bowl eligible for the first time since 2016 and are looking to improve their 6-6 record. They have a few options for bowl games, but their most likely destination is the Birmingham Bowl.
Gator Bowl
Texas Tech is going to the Gator Bowl! This is their first time in the Gator Bowl since 1957. They will be playing against the University of South Florida. USF is coming off of a great season where they went 10-2 and won the American Athletic Conference. Texas Tech is 9-3 and finished 3rd in the Big 12. This should be a great game between two up and coming programs.
Sun Bowl
Texas Tech is currently 6-6 and ranked #52 in the College Football Playoff rankings. They are eligible for a bowl game, but it is unclear which one they will be selected for. There are a few options, but the most likely seem to be the Sun Bowl, the Independence Bowl, or the Liberty Bowl.
The Sun Bowl is played in El Paso, Texas and features teams from the ACC and Pac-12. The Independence Bowl is played in Shreveport, Louisiana and features teams from the SEC and ACC. The Liberty Bowl is played in Memphis, Tennessee and features teams from the Big 12 and SEC.
Texas Tech has never played in the Sun Bowl or the Independence Bowl, but they have played in the Liberty Bowl twice before (in 2014 and 2017).

Texas Tech is projected to play in the Alamo Bowl according to most sources. The Alamo Bowl is a post-season college football bowl game held in San Antonio, Texas. The game was started in 1993 and has been played annually since then.
