These pictures provide detailed information about the structure and function of the body’s organs and tissues.
CT technologists must be able to operate the CAT scanner and produce high-quality images. They must also be able to position patients correctly on the scanning table and explain the procedure to them in a way that will help them feel comfortable and cooperative. In some cases, CT technologists may administer contrast agents, which are injected into the patient’s bloodstream to help provide more detailed images.
CT technologists typically work in hospitals or outpatient imaging centers. They may work full time or part time, and their hours may include weekends and holidays. Some CT technologists may be required to work evening or night shifts.

CT Tech Certification

Many also become CT techs after completing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in radiology, radiation therapy, or a related field.
The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) offers certification in computed tomography for those who meet eligibility requirements and pass the certification exam. To be eligible for ARRT CT certification, candidates must have completed an accredited program and met clinical experience requirements. Candidates must also pass the ARRT CT exam before they can earn certification.
CT Tech Salary
The median CT tech salary is $74,510 per year, which means that half of all CT techs earn less than this amount and half earn more. CT techs who are in the bottom 10 percent can expect to earn less than $52,660 per year, while those in the top 10 percent can expect to earn more than $98,920 per year.
CT Tech Job Outlook
The job outlook for CT techs is very good. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment of CT techs will grow 11 percent from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations.1 An aging population and increasing demand for CT scans to diagnose and treat injuries and illnesses are the main drivers of this growth.
