For first-time undergraduate students, the process of getting into georgia tech can seem daunting. There are many factors that go into the admission decision, but your GPA is one of the most important. Georgia Tech uses a holistic approach to admissions, but your grades are still a major factor. So, what GPA do you need to get into Georgia Tech?
How to Apply
Georgia Tech accepts applications for fall, spring, and summer semesters. The application deadline is September 1 for fall semester and January 15 for spring semester.
You will need to submit the following materials:
-An application form
-A non-refundable $75 application fee (Can be waived if you apply online)
-A personal essay
-Official high school transcripts
-Official SAT or ACT scores (waived if you have a 3.0+ GPA)
To be considered for admission, you must have graduated from an accredited high school or earned your GED. You must also have completed the following college preparatory courses:
-4 years of English
-3 years of mathematics (Algebra I or higher)
-2 years of natural/physical science (1 year of lab if offered by your high school)
-2 years of social sciences
-4 years of foreign language is strongly recommended
Application Requirements
In order to be eligible for admission to Georgia Tech, you must meet the following requirements:
-You must have a high school diploma or equivalent
-You must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
-You must take the SAT or ACT and receive a score of 1000 or higher on the SAT or 21 or higher on the ACT
If you meet all of the above requirements, you will be eligible for admission to Georgia Tech.
The Georgia Tech GPA Requirements
Georgia Tech does not have a minimum GPA requirement, but the average GPA of admitted students is a 4.0. The middle 50% of students admitted to Georgia Tech have a GPA between a 3.7 and a 4.0.
The Average GPA
To be eligible for admission to Georgia Tech, you must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. However, the average GPA for admitted students is 3.7, so your goal should be to aim for that GPA or higher. If your GPA is below 3.0, you may still be eligible for admission if you have significant and demonstrated letters of recommendation and/or test scores that compensate for your low GPA.
The Minimum GPA
The Georgia Tech GPA requirements are pretty competitive- the average GPA of admitted students is 4.18. To be safe, aim for a GPA that’s at least a 3.5 on the Regular Decision admissions timeline. This will make you a competitive applicant at most schools (except, of course, the most competitive like Stanford).
In addition to a high GPA, you’ll need to nail your standardized test scores. The middle 50% range for SAT scores is 1470-1560 and for ACT it’s 33-35. We recommend taking whichever standardized test you think you’ll do better on (based off of practice tests). Maintaining a strong GPA throughout your high school career is important, but don’t panic if your grades dip junior year- most colleges understand that this is the most challenging academic year.

The GPA Scale
The GPA scale is the standard measure of student academic achievement in US secondary (high) schools and colleges. The scale runs from 0 to 4.0, with 4.0 being the highest possible GPA. A student’s GPA is calculated by assigning a numerical value to each letter grade they receive, then averaging those values together.
For example, if a student receives an A in one class and a B in another, their GPA would be 3.5 ((4+3)/2). If a student received an A in one class and an F in another, their GPA would be 2.0 ((4+0)/2).
There are many different factors that can affect a student’s GPA, including the difficulty of their classes, how well they do on tests and assignments, and how often they miss school. However, students who consistently put effort into their studies and take challenging classes can still earn a high GPA, even if they don’t have perfect grades.
The GPA Calculator
The GPA calculator can be a useful tool if you are trying to raise your GPA or if you are wondering what GPA you need to get into Georgia Tech. Here is how the GPA calculator works:
First, you need to know your current GPA and the number of credit hours you have completed. You can find this information on your transcript.
Next, you need to decide how many credit hours you are going to take in the future and what grades you want to earn in those courses.
Finally, enter those numbers into the GPA calculator and it will tell you what your GPA will be after you complete those courses.
The GPA calculator is only a tool and it cannot tell you exactly what GPA you need to get into Georgia Tech. It is up to you to make sure that you are taking the right courses and earning good grades in those courses. However, the GPA calculator can give you a good idea of what your GPA will be after you complete additional courses.
The Grade Replacement Policy
One way to offset a low GPA is to utilize the grade replacement policy. The grade replacement policy allows students to retake a course in which they previously earned a C- or below. When the course is retaken, the original grade will remain on the transcript but will be replaced with a CR (credit) on the GPA. Only grades of C- or below may be replaced; courses with higher grades may not be retake for credit. In addition, only one attempt per course is eligible for replacement regardless of whether the original attempt was earned at Georgia Tech or another institution. The most recent grade earned in a repeated course is used in both the HPR and credit hour calculations for graduation, but only the original attempt is included in the GPA calculation.
