History of ID Tech
The history of ID Tech begins in 1985 with the founding of the company. ID Tech was founded by a group of engineers who left Atari to form their own company. The goal of the company was to design and develop computer games. The first game developed by ID Tech was Commander Keen: Invasion of the Vorticons, which was released in 1990.
In 1992, ID Tech released Wolfenstein 3D, which is considered to be the first first-person shooter (FPS) game. The success of Wolfenstein 3D led to the development of Doom, which was released in 1993. Doom was highly successful and is considered to be one of the most influential games of all time.
ID Tech has continued to develop successful games over the years, such as Quake, Hexen, and HeXen II. In 2005, ID Tech was acquired by ZeniMax Media, which is the parent company of Bethesda Softworks. ID Tech remains an independent studio within Bethesda Softworks and continues to develop AAA games such as Doom (2016), Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (2017), and Quake Champions (2017).
