The SAT

What is the SAT?
The SAT is a standardized test that is widely used for college admissions in the United States. The test measures critical thinking and verbal and math skills. The SAT is offered seven times a year, and students can register for the test online.
What is a good SAT score?
There is no simple answer to this question. The SAT score you need depends on the colleges and universities you are considering applying to. Each school has their own sat score requirements so it’s important to do your research before taking the SAT.
How competitive is the school? If you’re applying to a highly competitive school, you’ll need a higher SAT score than if you’re applying to a less competitive school.
What are the average SAT scores of admitted students? This information is usually available on the school’s website. If the average score of admitted students is lower than your score, you have a good chance of being admitted.
What are your other credentials? If you have strong grades and extracurricular activities, you may be able to get into a good college with a lower SAT score. However, if your grades and extracurriculars are not as strong, you will need a higher SAT score to make up for it.
In general, a good SAT score is any score that gets you into the college or university of your choice. However, if you want to be competitive for scholarships or admission into highly selective schools, you will need a higher score. The best way to find out whatscoreyou need is to research colleges and universities and see what their requirements are.
What is the SAT score required for Virginia Tech?
virginia tech does not have a minimum SAT score requirement. However, the middle 50% of students who were admitted for Fall 2018 had SAT scores between 1180 and 1370. The ACT

Other factors
Class rank
In addition to your SAT score, your class rank is also an important factor in the admissions process.
Virginia Tech considers your high school GPA and class rank in our holistic review of applications. We calculate your GPA using the grades you earn in 16 core academic courses: four English courses, three math courses, three natural science courses, three social science courses, two foreign language courses and one additional academic course. If you’re homeschooled or attend a high school that doesn’t issue class ranks, we’ll use other measures to assess your academic achievement.
Your class rank is just one part of our holistic review of applications for admission. We also consider your high school curriculum, grades, SAT or ACT scores (if submitted), essays, letters of recommendation and extracurricular activities when making our admission decisions.
GPA
While a specific SAT score is not required for admission to Virginia Tech, we do consider your highest composite score from a single test date. If you take the SAT more than once, we will use the highest composite score along with the highest scores on individual sections to determine your parallel total. We encourage all students to submit results from multiple testing dates (Superscoring).
In addition to looking at your high school grades and SAT/ACT scores, we also take into account the difficulty of your coursework, your application essay, letters of recommendation, and your experience outside of the classroom. Our holistic review process is designed to get to know you as a complete person so that we can best determine if Virginia Tech is the right fit for you.
Recommendations
In order to be admitted into Virginia Tech, the SAT score range that they recommend is 1200-1400. This is just a recommendation though, and not all students who have scores lower than this will be rejected. There are other factors that the university looks at when making their decision such as GPA, class rank, and extracurricular activities.
Extracurricular activities
While activities like student government, volunteering, playing sports, and being part of a club look good on college applications, evidence suggests that Extracurricular activities are not a significant factor in the admission decision.
That’s not to say that you shouldn’t do them — they can be fun and can enhance your High School experience. But if you’re worried that you don’t have enough extracurriculars, or that your extracurriculars aren’t “impressive” enough, don’t stress. Focus on doing things that you enjoy and that will make High School a more enjoyable experience for you.
