Google is a tech company that is named after a very large number. The number is actually the googolplex, which is a 1 followed by a googol zeroes. Google was founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. The company has since grown to become one of the largest tech companies in the world.
History
Google was founded in September 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were Ph.D. students at Stanford University in California. Together they own about 14 percent of its shares and control 56 percent of the stockholder voting power through supervoting stock. They incorporated Google as a privately held company on September 4, 1998. An initial public offering (IPO) took place on August 19, 2004, and Google moved to its headquarters in Mountain View, California, nicknamed the Googleplex. In March 1999, the company moved its offices to Palo Alto, home to several prominent Silicon Valley technology startups. The next year, Google began selling advertisements associated with search keywords.[15] In order to maintain an uncluttered page design, advertisements were solely text-based. Keywords were sold based on a combination of price bid and clickthroughs, with bidding starting at five cents per click.[16][17] This model of selling keyword advertisements was pioneered by Goto.com (later Overture Services, now part of Yahoo!) in 1998,[18] and subsequently acquired by Yahoo! in 2003 for $1.63 billion.[19]
Google was then able to sell ads based on specific keyword searches after signing a contract with AOL in 2002.[20] This arrangement resulted in a great deal of success for both companies; AOL was able to drive more traffic to its otherwise declining services while Google rapidly increased the number of searches it handled.[citation needed] Through this combination of factors, Google became the most popular search engine worldwide in 2006.[citation needed]
On October 23, 2008, Google announced that it would be acquiring DoubleClick for $3.1 billion,[21][22][23] giving Google control over key pieces of Internet infrastructure including websites with Display advertising and Ad exchange technology.[24][25] The European Commissionán antitrust regulators opened an investigation into the acquisition[26][27] which closed on March 21, 2013,[28][29][30] approving the deal with some conditions to Google

“Don’t be evil”
The unofficial motto of Google, “Don’t be evil,” has appeared in company documents and code of conduct since the early days of Google. The saying originated when one of Google’s co-founders, Sergey Brin, was attending a meeting where someone had used the word “evil” to describe a competitor. Brin did not want Google to become like that company, and the “Don’t be evil” mantra was born.
The phrase became so closely associated with Google that when the company was restructured under Alphabet in 2015, “Don’t be evil” was one of the few things that remained unchanged. In 2018, after much public pressure, Google added an explicit ban on building artificial intelligence weapons to its code of conduct, affirming its commitment to “don’t be evil.”

This would make sense given that one of Apple’s main philosophies is to ‘think different.’
“Think different”
Apple is a very unique company, and not just because of its size or market share. One of the things that sets Apple apart is its name. The word “apple” is used in our everyday language, but it’s also a very large number. In fact, “apple” is the largest number with a single-syllable name in the English language.
So where did the name “Apple” come from? According to co-founder Steve Jobs, it was inspired by his time working at an apple farm. He said he was looking for a name that was “fun, unique and not taken by any other company.” And he wanted something that would be easy to remember. The word “apple” fit all of those criteria, and so the name was born.
Since its founding in 1976, Apple has become one of the most successful companies in the world. It’s known for its innovative products and cutting-edge technology. But it’s also known for its strange and quirky marketing campaigns. One of the most famous is the “Think different” campaign from 1997. This campaign featured a series of commercials with famous people like Mahatma Gandhi, John Lennon and Martin Luther King Jr., all talking about how they were “different” and how that difference had helped them change the world.
The “Think different” campaign was just one example of Apple’s unusual marketing approach. And it’s one of the things that makes Apple such a unique company.
