Introduction
texas tech University’s commencement ceremonies are held twice a year, in May and December. All graduates are encouraged to participate in the ceremony that corresponds to the semester in which they will complete their degree requirements. However, if a graduate cannot participate in the commencement ceremony during their intended graduation semester, they may do so during the following semester.
The date of graduation
The date of graduation is December 12, 2019.
The time of graduation
The time of graduation is set by the University and is typically in May.
Commencement for the Fall, Spring and Summer graduates is usually held the Sunday after classes end. The date and time of the ceremony will be posted on the TTU website as soon as it is finalized.
The location of graduation
Texas Tech’s main campus is located in Lubbock, Texas. The university also has campuses in Amarillo, Dallas-Fort Worth, El Paso, and Waco. Graduation ceremonies are held at the Lubbock campus.
The dress code for graduation
It is traditional for graduates to wear a cap and gown to commencement ceremonies. The gowns worn by undergraduates are usually black, while the gowns worn by graduate students are usually hooded and come in a variety of colors depending on the degree being earned. The type of hood worn also varies depending on the degree.
The RSVP date for graduation
The RSVP date for graduation is May 1st.
The ceremony
The ceremony is held at United Supermarkets Arena and lasts about two hours. Guests are asked to be in their seats by 1:30 p.m. so the procession can begin promptly at 2:00 p.m.
The reception
After you receive your diploma, you and your guests are invited to attend a reception in your honor. The reception will be held in the alumni tent, which is located on the west side of the stadium. You and your guests will be able to enjoy refreshments and mingle with other graduates, faculty, and staff.

After the diplomas have been distributed and the pictures have been taken, it’s time to celebrate! Join us for the post-ceremony reception.
