Ruston is a small city in northern Louisiana, and is the home of Louisiana Tech University. The university is located just off of I-20, and is about an hour’s drive from both Shreveport and Monroe. Ruston is a quiet, family-oriented city with a population of just over 21,000. The city has a historic downtown district with shops and restaurants, as well as a number of parks and trails.Ruston is also home to the Lincoln Parish Museum, which houses artifacts from the Civil War and Louisiana’s colonial history.

Louisiana Tech University, often referred to as Louisiana Tech or La. Tech, is a public research university in Ruston, Louisiana. It is a member of the University of Louisiana System and is categorized as an R2 Doctoral University by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education with “high research activity.” It was founded in 1894 as the Industrial Institute and College of Louisiana. Louisiana Tech opened its doors in October 1894 with Colonel and Judge E. J. horseman as president.

Notably, Louisiana Tech is home to the Eiffel Tower replica, made entirely out of steel donated by local steel company Nucor, as well as one of only seventeen sculptures nationwide commissioned by Coca Cola in 1986 called ” Harmonious Journey”. The university is also home to the J.C. Harper Environmental Research Laboratory which was designated as a National Estuarine Research Reserve in 2013.
