Early Life and Education
Josh Pastner was born on October 5, 1977, in White Plains, New York. His father, Ted, a successful businessman, was also an assistant basketball coach at the University of Memphis. Growing up around the game, Pastner had a passion for basketball from an early age. He played point guard and shooting guard in high school and was named Mr. Basketball in Arizona in 1996.
Pastner went on to attend the University of Arizona on a basketball scholarship. He was part of the team that won the NCAA Championship in 1997. After graduating with a degree in business administration in 2000, Pastner spent a year working as an administrative assistant for the men’s basketball team at his alma mater before taking his first coaching job at georgia tech in 2001.

Before taking the helm of the georgia tech men’s basketball program, Pastner served as the head coach athips Memphis (2009-2016) and Arizona State (2016-2017). He led Memphis to a 210-61 record and four NCAA tournament appearances, including a trip to the 2013 NCAA Sweet Sixteen. Pastner was named the National Coach of the Year by CBSSports.com in 2013 and was a two-time Conference USA Coach of the Year (2011, 2013).
