Matt Wells is originally from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He played his collegiate football at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he was a quarterback from 1993-1996.
Alma mater
Matt Wells attended West Salem High School in Salem, Oregon. He played college football at the University of Utah, where he was a quarterback from 1994 to 1996.
Playing career
Born and raised in Canada, Matt Wells played quarterback for the University of Montana from 1995 to 1998. In his senior year, he led the Grizzlies to the Division I-AA national championship. He was named the Most Outstanding Player in the championship game, completing 21 of 30 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns.

Matthew Craig Wells (born February 18, 1975) is an American football coach. He is the current head football coach at texas tech university Wells was previously the head coach at Utah State University for seven seasons. Prior to coaching at Utah State, he served as an assistant coach at the University of Oklahoma, the University of Tulsa and Navy.

The new texas tech Football Coach is Chris Beard. He is a former texas tech assistant coach who has been the head coach at UNLV since 2016. Beard has a record of 52-17 in his three seasons at UNLV. He has also been an assistant coach at Texas, Angelo State, and McMurry University.

Beard was born in Irving, Texas and raised in Gorman, Texas. He played basketball at Gorman High School before attending Angelo State University from 1988 to 1992. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Angelo State under Bob Utterback before moving on to Abilene Christian University as an assistant under Joe Paine. In 2000, Beard became an assistant under Billy Gillispie at UTEP.
Playing career
Chris Beard played college basketball at the University of Texas. He began his coaching career as a student assistant under Tom Penders from 1991 to 1993. He then became a graduate assistant under Penders from 1993 to 1995. In 1996, he was an assistant coach at Abilene Christian University before returning to his alma mater, Texas, in 1998 as an assistant coach under Rick Barnes.

Chris Beard is an American college basketball coach who is the current men’s head coach at Texas Tech University. Beard was born in Irving, Texas, and played college basketball at Angelo State University from 1991 to 1995. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater before moving on to Abilene Christian University, McMurry University, and the University of New Orleans. In 2011, Beard was hired as an assistant coach at the University of Arkansas.
In 2012, Beard was named the head men’s basketball coach at Little Rock. In his first season, he led the Trojans to a 27–7 record and the Sun Belt Conference tournament championship. The following year, he guided Little Rock to a 30–5 record and its first NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament berth in school history. After three seasons at Little Rock, Beard was hired as the head men’s basketball coach at Texas Tech in 2016. He led the Red Raiders to the NCAA tournament in his first season and then guided them to the program’s first ever Final Four appearance in 2019.
