The head coach of the texas tech men’s basketball team is Chris Beard. He was born in 1974 and grew up in Abilene, Texas. He played college basketball at texas tech from 1993 to 1996. After his playing career, he began his coaching career as an assistant at Abilene Christian University.

Chris Beard was hired on April 15, 2016, becoming the 14th head coach in program history. He led the Red Raiders to a 27-10 record and their first NCAA Tournament berth in 13 years in his first season at the helm. The Red Raiders made it to the Elite Eight of the 2019 NCAA Tournament before losing to eventual national champion Virginia.
