The Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team defeated the texas tech Red Raiders in the National Championship game on Monday night, becoming the first team in NCAA history to win three national titles in four years. Mike Krzyzewski’s team won by a final score of 82-69, finishing the season with a 35-3 record.

Duke started the game off with a 7-0 lead, but texas tech quickly answered back with a 14-0 run of their own. After a see-saw battle for the lead, Duke went into halftime leading by 3. In the 2nd half, texas tech took the lead for good with about 8 minutes left in the game, and held on to win by a final score of 69-58.
Texas Tech was led by their junior guard Jarrett Culver, who scored 19 points on 7-17 shooting, grabbed 8 rebounds, and had 3 assists. Culver was also named the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. Senior guard Matt Mooney also had a great game for Texas Tech, scoring 17 points on 6-11 shooting, including 4-7 from three point range.
This is Texas Tech’s first ever trip to the NCAA Final Four, and their first ever National Championship in any sport.

The Highlights
Duke didn’t let Texas Tech get off to a great start. The Red Raiders were limited to 23.1 percent shooting in the first half and trailed by as many as 15 points. But freshman Matt Mooney, who had only four points in the first half, took over in the second. He scored 18 of his 22 points after halftime and led a comeback that got Tech within two points in the final minute.
The game ended with an eerie silence from the Duke bench. The Duke players hung their heads, some of them praying while others just stared into space. A season that began with so much promise had come to an end in the most crushing way possible.
Texas Tech will now prepare for its first Final Four game against Michigan State on Saturday. The Spartans crushed third-seeded LSU 82-63 earlier on Sunday to punch their ticket to Minneapolis.
