When Does Va Tech Go Back to School?

Introduction

Going back to school can be a hectic time, so it’s important to know when your classes begin. Virginia Tech’s Fall 2019 semester will start on August 26th and end on December 13th. The academic calendar also includes Labor Day (September 2nd) and Thanksgiving break (November 27th-29th).

The Fall Semester

The fall semester at virginia tech typically begins the last week of August and ends the third week of December. The university is closed for Thanksgiving break and between semesters. Spring semester begins the last week of January and ends the first week of May, with a break for Easter.

The Spring Semester

The spring semester at virginia tech runs from January through May. Students typically return to campus after winter break in early January and begin classes a few days later. The semester ends in late May, and final exams are usually held during the last week of the month.

Summer Sessions

Summer Sessions at Virginia Tech offer a variety of credit and non-credit courses that are open to all students. Registration for Summer Sessions begins in mid-March and continues through the first week of classes. Dates for each session are listed below, along with the registration deadline and the last day to withdraw from a class without receiving a grade of ‘W’.

Session I: May 28 – June 27
Registration Deadline: May 24
Last Day to Withdraw: June 7

Session II: July 1 – August 1
Registration Deadline: June 26
Last Day to Withdraw: July 11

Session III: August 5 – September 4
Registration Deadline: August 2 Last Day to Withdraw: August 15
