National vet tech week celebrated this year from October 13-19, 2019, is a weeklong event honoring the vital role of veterinary technicians in the lives of animals and the people who care for them.

The profession of veterinary technology has grown tremendously over the past few decades and today’s vet techs are highly skilled and educated professionals who play an important role on the healthcare team.

Vet techs work in a variety of settings including private practices, research laboratories, zoos, aquariums, wildlife centers, farm animal practices, public health agencies, and more. They may work with small companion animals, large animals, or exotic species and their duties vary depending on the type of practice they work in.

Common duties of veterinary technicians include animal nursing care, anesthesia assistance, diagnostic testing, laboratory work, client education, pharmacy management, and surgical assistance.

National Vet Tech Week is a time to celebrate all that veterinary technicians do for animals and the people who love them. If you know a vet tech, be sure to thank them for their dedication to providing quality care for our furry friends!
