Texas Tech University’s head football coach is Matt Wells. He was born on February 5, 1976, in San Angelo, Texas. Wells played quarterback for New Mexico State University from 1994 to 1997. He then started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater in 1998. Wells has also coached at the University of Tulsa, the University of Utah, and Louisiana Tech University.

Coaching Career

Texas Tech’s current football coach is Matt Wells. Wells was hired in 2019 and is entering his second season as the Red Raiders’ head coach in 2020. Prior to coaching at texas tech Wells was the head coach at Utah State from 2013-2018. He led the Aggies to six bowl games in his six seasons at the helm, winning three of them.

Texas Tech head football coach Matt Wells was born on October 9, 1976, in San Diego, California. Wells and his wife, Mandy, have three children: Mason, Madeline, and Myles. The family resides in Lubbock.

Head Coaching Record

Since taking over as the texas tech red raiders head football coach in 2013, Kliff Kingsbury has led the team to a winning record in three of his six seasons at the helm. His best season came in 2015, when the Red Raiders went 10-3 overall and finished tied for second place in the Big 12 Conference with an 8-1 record. The team has also made bowl appearances under Kingsbury in 2014, 2016 and 2018.
